![]() Speaking of annoying things, there are so many little annoyances in this game which aren't awful for the most part on their own, but when put together make many parts of Sunshine straight up miserable. I'm not a big fan of how you have to get all the shines in each level in order, I get that you have to do so in order to get to chase Shadow Mario to get the 7th Shine in each level, especially when it boots you out of the level every time you die or collect a shine which just kills the pacing, which could easily be solved by allowing you to complete Shines 1-6 in any order you wish and then unlocking the 7th shine in the level after completing the previous 6, even then though its very annoying having it where you HAVE to collect the 7th shine in each world to beat the game, they really milk each area you visit in sunshine. Now in general I enjoy all the levels in their design, but A LOT of them suffer in how they're structured. Now it's time for some of my.issues with this game. One of the best parts of Sunshine for me is the hub-world of Delfino Plaza which is by far in my opinion the best hub area in a 3D Mario game, there's plenty of fun things to do to mess around and its just so enjoyable just running around in it, that may be in part due to the music which is so good in this area I often just spent time running around just so I could listen to the music that plays there some more! The music in Sunshine is also phenomenal as expected for a Mario game, with some of my favorite pieces being Delfino Plaza as mentioned previously, as well as the music for Sirena Beach and the Secret stages, the latter being especially nice since its cool hearing acapella renditions of the main Mario theme! Then you have the cutscenes and voice acting which is just another kind of deal that I love in a guilty pleasure kind of way, I do unironically like how Peach sounds though when she talks. Overall I absolutely LOVE Sunshine's atmosphere and vacation themed aesthetic, of course this may be due to personal bias since I grew up and live in Florida so I've always enjoyed beach/vacation themed stuff, but still I think its a creative setting. Sorry this section was meant to be shorter but I just had to go on a tangent about that complaint people have with this game.Īnyways, onto the next part, presentation. ![]() ![]() Even without FLUDD you still have moves you can perform that are just as good if not basically the same as the long jump like the jump-dive, triple jump-dive, or the spin-jump dive. Using the hover-nozzle basically serves the same function as the long jump that I personally think is even better than it since with the hover nozzle you can change your direction if you want to, as well as being able to accomplish movement that just isn't possible with the long jump when combining the use of it with Mario's moveset. One complaint I've seen from many people about Sunshine was the removal of Mario's long jump, and I can sort-of see where they're coming from, I personally never found an issue since the game has plenty of good mobility options that work great as replacements for it with the spin-jump and FLUDD. So for the pat few weeks I've been playing Super Mario Sunshine since it was the only mainline 3D Mario game I hadn't played, so here's my thoughts on this game.įirstly, I think Super Mario Sunshine has some of the best movement options when it comes to how you maneuver around as Mario, it feels so easy to perform moves like side-flips and the spin-jump even on small platforms, Mario in this game is probably one of the tightest versions to control, with I think this game only being beat by Super Mario Odyssey. ![]()
